New Haven, CT, May 2nd 1970.
Students at Yale University go on strike to support the Black Panther Party while several party leaders are on trial. The May Day weekend demonstration protested the perceived unfairness in the trial of Black Panther Chairman Bobby Seale and other party members and drew 15,000 to 20,000 protesters from around the US, including the Yale students. Clashes with police in preceding days led to the relatively peaceful demonstration on the weekend of May 1, 1970.
