Venice Beach, California, U.S.A, March, 1980. In 1904, Abbot Kinney, a wealthy tobacco mogul, created Venice Beach, a resort town culturally reminiscent of Venice, Italy, with canals, gondolas, amusement piers, hotels and Venetian-styled structures, west of Los Angeles.
