He (November 3, 1901 - November 23, 1976) was a French art theorist, novelist, he wrote the 1933 Prix Goncourt winning novel La Condition Humaine, and was the Minister for Cultural Affairs during Charles de Gaulle's presidency from 1959 - 1969.
