On February 4, 1976, Guatemala was struck by a major 7.5 magnitude earthquake, which contributed to the high death toll of 23.000 and about 80.000 wounded. This happened during the night and most adobe type houses in mountain villages collapsed. The food distribution, supervised by the army, was extremely complicated.
