July 16, 1969, Cape Kennedy, Florida, USA --- The night that preceded the departure of Apollo XI from Kennedy Space Center to the Moon was an ongoing party. People danced and spent countless hours in swimming pools to pass time. It was an unforgettable night filled with feverish excitement. The least resilient collapsed and finally went to sleep from 5 am to 8 am. The take-off happened at 9:23 am on July 16, 1969 under a torrid sun.--- Image by © JP Laffont/Sygma/CORBIS
