16 Nov 1971 --- The first sitting at the UN of the People's Republic of China (PRC) delegation attracting a great deal of attention in the United Nations General Assembly. The PRC delegation was headed by Chiao Kuan Hua, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs (center left) and First UN Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Huang Hua (center right). Behind them is President Mao's niece, Ms. Wang Hai Yong. On October 25, 1971 the United Nations General Assembly admitted the People's Republic of China as a UN and permanent member of the Security Council, expelling the Republic of China (or nationalist Taiwan). --- Image by © JP Laffont
